Welcome to Treviglas College!
Treviglas in the top 2% of schools nationally!!
And the college is visited by Sir Bruce Liddington, Schools’ Commissioner
Following the release of data from the Department of Children, Families and Schools– Treviglas is delighted to see that the college has been placed in the top 2% of all schools, nationally, for adding value. This follows the excellent GCSE results of August 2007 when, once again, the college exceeded its targets, not only at GCSE but at every key stage.
Headteacher, Helen Mathieson commented, “Treviglas made it into the top 10% in 2006 and that was a wonderful testament to the hard work and achievement of our students, but to continue that upward trajectory, taking us into the top 2% is fantastic for everyone in our community.”
The number of GCSE’s achieved by students at any school will vary every year, as each year group contains very different individuals who have different capabilities. “To take account of this difference in ability, Ofsted does not judge schools on the raw published score of how many of the young people in a particular year group gain the benchmark of 5 grade Cs at GCSE because that will change each year depending on the children taking the exams,” explained Mrs Mathieson.
“Instead it takes into account how much the pupils have exceeded their original potential and measures the ‘value’ which has been added by the school as a result of inspirational teaching, a curriculum tailored to the needs of the individual and the overall level of encouragement and guidance given by the college as a whole.”
This ‘added value’ is reported as the Contextual Added Value figure for every individual school and it is by this measure that Treviglas has gained the accolade of being placed in the top 2% of all schools.
Chair of Governors, Mrs Theresa Frost, praised the hard work of everyone – students, teachers and parents. “The Governing Body is extremely proud of the on-going success of the college. Its success is much deserved and parents can be very pleased indeed to know that here, at Treviglas, students receive the all-round educational experience and opportunities that allow them to out-perform the original level of their potential.”
Sir Bruce Liddington, Schools’ Commissioner, praises Enterprise Education at Treviglas.
In October, Treviglas was visited by Sir Bruce Liddington, appointed by Gordon Brown to be the Schools’ Commissioner. Sir Bruce came to Treviglas to view for himself the excellence of the “outstanding” curriculum on offer which has ensured a rapid rise in the level of school improvement leading to examination successes at every key stage. In particular, Sir Bruce wanted to see Enterprise education in action and to understand how Treviglas has developed teaching and learning strategies, through enterprise, which motivate and engage young people to the extend that retention rates into post 16 and achievement levels in national examinations have drawn government interest. Sir Bruce spent the whole day at the college, watching lessons and talking to students to find out from them why the track record of the college is so bright. Sir Bruce has written to the Headteacher to thank the college for hosting his visit to a “truly inspirational school” and to say that Treviglas is “a model school which we can all learn from, not just the pupils” where there is “a culture for enthusiastic learning with a highly skilled and motivated team of staff.”
