Treviglas Community College and Treviglas Sports Hub hosted the Cornwall Schools Games area basketball finals recently. Teams from primary schools across mid Cornwall came to pit their skills against one another. Sports leaders from Treviglas ran the event, many of whom were also playing for the local team, the Newquay Sharks.
Matt, a Year 8 Sports leader said, ‘The games were fast and furious and the players were playing full paced, with no let up throughout all the games’
After some great games, the top three schools were Bishops Bronscombe in third, Mount Charles in Second and Newquay Junior Academy in first place.
Two schools will go forward from this festival to represent Mid Cornwall in the Cornwall School Games final on the 30th of June at Bude. Treviglas wishes them all the best for the finals.
Sean Wells, Community Sports Coordinator, said, “It was great to have the opportunity to hosts this festival; the leaders found it a big step up from our local games at primary level, but it was great to see the intensity of play build up over the course of the festival with every match.”
If you want to try basketball, the Newquay Sharks train every Friday during term time 3.45 – 4.45 at the Sports Hub and they have regular games against other basketball teams in Cornwall.
