Citizenship

Our goal is to investigate the world and empower our students to be outstanding citizens. In year 7 and 8 students follow an melded skills based curriculum combining elements of History, Geography, Religious Studies and Citizenship that form the foundation of future GCSE’s Studies. In year 9 students follow discrete History, Geography and Philosophy and Ethics to fully support the transition to KS4.

At KS3 our curriculum is built around the development of personal learning and thinking skills (PLTS). Our Philosophy is that students need to embed resilience as a key stone to their learning. Once independence and motivation have become the norm students will be more prepared and adept at tackling life’s challenges at the same time as having the knowledge and understanding of the diversity of the world in which we live.

We develop our students’ skills through such activities as group work; higher order questioning; independent learning; roles plays; hot seating; research and presentations.

Student led learning is at the heart of everything we do.

Every pupil sets their own individual targets level for progress each term which compliment the written and oral feedback students receive from their teachers. We are very aware that History, Geography, Religious studies and Citizenship provide excellent opportunities for students to further their literacy and numeracy skills and we ensure that these transferable skills are an intricate part of teaching and learning.
