Imaginative wizardry at Treviglas Creative Inspiration Saturday

Monday 9th October 2017

Primary students from Years 5 and 6 attended the Creative Inspiration Saturday at Treviglas at the weekend. A range of exciting activities was on offer for the students to try out. The Harry Potter challenge was a great success, with the youngsters taking part, including some who wore their own fancy dress costumes to really get into character! The children made magical potions with a vast range of ingredients and unlocked the secret treasure chest with the help of Year 9 student leader Jackson. They showed off their creative skills in designing and decorating wands and ties. The room was magically decorated to create a stunning Hogwarts-inspired learning environment, where wizards were welcome but Muggles were only tolerated.

The Harry Potter theme was continued in the drama activity, which also linked with elements of media. Students explored roles and characters, and threw themselves into their roles with great enthusiasm. One student from St Columb Minor Academy said, “I loved the drama because it was about Harry Potter and I just love acting.”

In art, the students learned printing techniques, and were extremely excited to be allowed to use the rollers to paint the ink onto the tables! From there they used flowers and leaves to create their own original designs. One student from Goonhavern School said, “I thought it was so much fun doing the printing with the flowers and leaves.”

The recycled beach art challenge involved students planning a beach-inspired collage which they created using beach finds, sand and other materials, completed against a backdrop of relaxing sea-inspired music. The parent of a student from Summercourt Academy commented, “We liked the beach art as it was fun and creative and a learning experience.”

In the paracord bracelet challenge, the students learned how to make their own bracelet from paracord. Even though some found this activity challenging, they persevered and were delighted with their final product and newly-learned skills.

Parents/carers of children in Year 6 are reminded to apply for a secondary school place for their child by the deadline of 31st October. A further open morning will be held at Treviglas on Friday 13th October from 8.45-10.15 am, and personal visits to the college are also welcomed – please contact reception on 01637 872076.
