Treviglas Community College Indoor Primary Rowing Festival - Wednesday 14th October.
The second Newquay family rowing festival took place at Treviglas. 10 teams of Year 5 and Year 6 students were entered from 7 schools. St. Columb Major, St. Columb Minor, Perranporth, Newquay Junior, Trevisker, Cubert and Bishops.
The festival gave the students the opportunity to compete for the first time against other schools. Treviglas Community College has set up a hub for indoor rowing in the Newquay area with 2 successful bids from awards which has provided 8 rowers for St. Columb Major school and 8 for Treviglas. From this funding Tommy Gee has visited many of the Newquay Primary Schools giving over a thousand children the opportunity to use a rower with specialist coaching.
The Treviglas rowing hub with its outreach into the community is now the largest indoor rowing club in the south west of England. The individual results were.
Girls
1st - Leah Paul, St. Columb Major, 426m
2nd - Sophie Batten, St Columb Major, 420m
3rd - Megan Saunders, Trevisker, 417m
Boys
1st - James Wilkins, Newquay Junior, 440m
Joint 2nd - Ryan Davies and Kristian Bellman, Trevisker, 435m
Team competition last year was won by St Columb Major but this time they pushed into third behind Newquay Junior and Trevisker.
There was also a new event this year with the team relay rowing where a team of 5 each rowed for 2 minutes each with a change on the rower, the results are:
1st Newquay Junior
2nd St Columb Major
3rd Trevisker
The Treviglas leaders helped with the festival giving support to the rowers some of whom are in the Treviglas Indoor Rowing team who are training hard for the Cornwall Championships.
