Year 6 students from primary schools in the Newquay area have attended transition workshops run by the science department at Treviglas in recent weeks. The primary children have experienced the science labs and enjoyed trying out the equipment in a practical experiment. Using the bunsen burners was a particular highlight, and the students planned and conducted an experiment where they burnt food to analyse the energy released.
The primary students were assisted in their work by Treviglas science leaders, who were able to use their skills to work with small groups. A main focus was on safety in the laboratory. The primary students all had an extremely positive experience and are looking forward to further practical work at secondary school.
