Tremendous developing sporting skills were on show at Treviglas recently, as the college hosted the Newquay Primary Schools mixed Year 3 /4 football festival. The festival came as the culmination of work Treviglas, in partnership with Newquay FC, have been doing that aims to encourage more young people to ‘have a go’ at football. Coaches from the football club, and Sports Leaders from Treviglas have been leading sessions in the schools over the past year.
Sean Wells, School Sports Coordinator for Treviglas, said, ‘This year we saw great skill levels and teamwork. The afternoon was a great success, with the players, many of whom have never played in a football match before, learning new skills; it gave them a new opportunity to compete at this level.’
Part of the Year 3 and 4 festival was led by Ben, a Year 9 leader and a member of the Football Futures Leadership Academy. Ben commented, ‘The skills shown were really good: the passing and movement at speed was great to watch.’
The Final play off between Cubert School and Goonhavern School was won by Cubert. The Most Sporting Team Award was won by Newquay Junior Academy.
