Treviglas Hosts Indoor Primary Rowing Festival

Newquay Sports Partnership rowing festival took place at Treviglas Community College, including 13 teams entered from 8 schools, made up of students from Years 5 and 6.

Sean Wells, Community Sports Coordinator for Treviglas, commented ‘The festival gave the opportunity for the children to compete for the first time against other schools. Treviglas has set up a hub for indoor rowing in the Newquay area. This year, records were broken in every event, showing what great athletes we have in the Newquay area. The girls rowed further than the boys again this year!

The individual results were for rows over 2 minutes

2nd       Mollie, Newquay Junior

3rd       Chloe, Bishops


1st       Oli, Newquay Junior

2nd     Robin, Trevisker

3rd      Barney, Newquay Junior

Team competition

This is decided from the positions that the individuals in boys and girls come and points are .given out accordingly to the teams

This year the results were:

1st        Newquay Junior 1

2nd       Trevisker

3rd       Newquay Junior 2 & Mawgan in Pydar

Team relay

There were 13 teams entered for the team relay rowing, where a team of 8 each rowed for 1 minute each. The results are:

1st        Newquay Junior

2nd       Trevisker

3rd       Cubert

4th       Bishops

Finn, Gold Sports Leader from Treviglas, who helped run the festival, said, ‘All four of these teams were touch and go in the final minute, but Newquay Junior won by 20 metres after 11 ½ minutes rowing!’

The Treviglas Sports leaders helped with the festival and Ethan, a Year 8 Sports Leader, said, ‘It was great fun! This was my first big festival leading; it is a great experience. I am looking forward to the next one.’
