There were lots of smiles at Truro Methodist Church last week as Treviglas students wowed the audience with a number of stunning performances.
The All Stars Percussion group, of which the majority of members are Treviglas students, took top prize in their category, following a sensational and crisp performance featuring arrangements of well known and original pieces, played on xylophones, marimbas, glockenspiels and assorted untuned percussion. This was followed by the Treviglas samba band who also performed an amazing set, winning second prize. The Samba group performance was led by 3 students: Jan from Year 11 and Raffety and Ruben from Year 8.
Raffety had a fantastic afternoon, as he later also won his solo class, winning a coveted individual trophy for his inspirational performance.
Year 7 student Sam said, “This was my first performance in a music competition so I was a bit nervous. It was amazing to win first and second prize!”
Both groups are directed by Zena Walker, who teaches percussion at Treviglas and other local schools. For more information about music lessons at Treviglas please speak to Mr Mildenhall in the music department.
