The English Department Programme of Study allows students to develop interpersonal skills, build resilience and become critical thinkers. We provide a dynamic and challenging daily diet of reading, writing, literacy, discussion and debate, unlocking access to the wider curriculum, evolving the school ethos of kindness, hard work and each students’ personal ethos, while exploring cultural capital as well as social, moral, and spiritual awareness. Our environment is nurturing, emphasising kindness, compassion and empathy, a safe space in which mistakes are stepping stones to success and we enable students to explore and develop their love of language, empowering them as independent thinkers and explorers. Students will read a novel, study a Shakespeare play, explore poetry, learn how to write creatively and also how to argue and persuade while also exploring the social, cultural and historical context of a text in order to better understand it.
