Headteacher Letter - September

Dear Parents/Carers,

Firstly, I would like to express my gratitude for your support with the return to school. Our students have been their usual amazing selves, and the culture of the school continues to be one of calm and kindness.

A special mention goes to Year 7 for settling in so well and making such a positive impression on all staff. Additionally, the rest of the student body has been incredibly supportive in helping them find their feet. A big thanks to all students who have contributed to the recent open evenings and transition events. The feedback has been fantastic.

School Updates

There have been some changes around the school since the start of term. Here are the main updates that will affect your children:

  • Building Works
We now have another 8 refurbished classrooms, including 2 DT workshops and a new Food room. These spaces are equipped with new furniture and equipment, providing excellent learning environments. We also have 4 new sets of toilets, one of which is designated for Year 7 use only. The new block is progressing well, with the roof beams going on this week. Please check our Facebook posts for photos and videos of this exciting project.

  • Independent Learning Centre (ILC)
I have sent a separate letter detailing the reasons behind and our use of the ILC. This space will evolve over the year but has already made a significant impact on the consistency of lesson delivery during staff absences. Rest assured, we are fully staffed, which is a position many other schools would envy.

  • Attendance
Mr. Wilson’s regular correspondence has highlighted the national issue of poor attendance post-COVID. I am delighted to report that our student attendance has improved significantly this year. This improvement is no accident, and I thank you for your continued support.

  • Mobile Phones
The DfE requires schools to enforce one of the following policies regarding mobile phones:

    • No mobile phones on school premises

    • Mobile phones handed in on arrival

    • Mobile phones kept in a secure location, inaccessible throughout the day

    • Never used, seen, or heard

    •

  • We adhere to the policy of ‘Never used, seen, or heard’. Phones used in school will be confiscated and can be collected from reception at the end of the day. Persistent use will result in the student being required to hand it in at the start of each day.

  • Bus Passes
Please ensure students have their correct bus passes daily. A photo of the pass is not acceptable. Temporary passes can be obtained from reception if necessary. Lost passes must be replaced through the County.

  • Free School Meals
A child is eligible for free school meals if you or they receive any of the following benefits:

    • Universal Credit (with annual net earned income of no more than £7,400)

    • Income Support

    • Job Seekers' Allowance (Income-Based)

    • Income Related Employment and Support Allowance

    • Child Tax Credit (without entitlement to Working Tax Credit and annual gross income of no more than £16,190)

    • Working Tax Credit run-on

    • Guarantee Element of Pension Credit

    • Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 Supports

More information and applications can be found here.

Finally, I am always eager to hear your views. Please complete the following questions to help with this.
